Brasserie Blanc

The French magician’s eighth culinary conjuring act sits perfectly alongside the likes of the Harvey Nics’ bar in the new £500 million city centre Cabot Circus development, and symbolises everything that is the new Bristol.

Set within the magnificent grade l-listed Friary buildings in the centre of the piazza, the 140-cover restaurant is strangely relaxed, with cushioned benches and a terrace for warmer months to enjoy coffees and more. As you might expect, there are more French classics than the Louvre along with modern dishes like crispy St Loup goat’s cheese with tomato chutney and open ravioli of poached egg, spinach and parmesan and Raymond’s renowned salmon & smoked haddock fishcakes. And it’s surprisingly affordable – the ‘Dine with wine’ menu costs just £11.50 for lunch and £15 for dinner for two courses complemented by a glass of something from the extensive drinks list. With Blanc’s right-hand man Clive Fretwell overseeing every dish, the food is close to flawless.

Meal for two, including wine and service: £80

Real People

"I live in Bath so I have to commute in to Bristol each day – the trains are rarely late and when I drive it takes around 45 minutes to get to work."
