Stables Bistro

The Ashton Court estate and stately home just below the Clifton Suspension Bridge have long been a stone’s throw destination for locals wanting to stretch their legs at weekends, but it’s only now that the magnificence of the site has extended to diners.

The new Stables Bistro opened late in 2008 on the back of a wave of Lottery Heritage Funding to renovate and refurbish the buildings, bringing with it chef Gary Vincent (of Brasserie Blanc fame) to develop a menu worthy. As with any successful restaurant in Bristol, it’s ingredients are all locally sourced, including organic venison from the estate’s own deer which you can see ambling past your window as you dine, not to mention hearty Sunday roasts and brunches to refuel after long strolls through the acres of pristine wood and grassland surroundings. The wood mushroom veloute with truffle croutons followed by the venison tastes like a condensed culinary version of the South West countryside.

Real People

"Having spent 10 years living and working in Central London for a busy Local Authority and then a major Housebuilder a move to somewhere a little quieter but with similar job and lifestyle opportunities seemed appealing... but did such a place exist? Personal circumstances lead me to Bristol. Having only visited Bristol on a handful of occasions I moved here and found a job with planning consultancy WYG. Having spent the last few months getting to know the City and adjusting to my new work role, Bristol seems to hold the perfect balance. The City is vibrant with lots going on in the arts and culture world. It has an interesting history with wonderful architecture and a beautiful waterside setting.  There are so many places to explore and endless places to be entertained, fed and watered"
